Broadband survey results

The results of the Broadband survey conducted by Oxfordshire County Council have been collated and can be seen at https://myconsultations.oxfordshire.gov.uk/consult.ti/oxonlinepersonal/consultationHome?utm_source=Broadband+Champions&utm_campaign=3d2c1e3090-Broadband_Champs_Jan_2013&utm_medium=email. The headline is that there were only thirteen surveys from Wardington. This puts Wardington in joint position 79 (with 5 other villages with a score of 13) out of 438 villages. Nine of the thirteen surveys were from Wardington and four were from Upper Wardington. Please only use the name Wardington in the future as there is a danger that Wardington and Upper Wardington may be considered to be two villages and as such our chances of the village being upgraded reduced. While these figures are disappointing Wardington is roughly 18% from the top of this list, Oxfordshire County Council

Broadband Briefing 1

From Ian Thompson I have tried to write this brief without using more jargon than needed.  However some jargon is unavoidable when talking about broadband, so for the large number of people that do not speak computer I have written a brief explanation at the end of this briefing to help you understand the jargon.    What is Broadband? Broadband is a high bandwidth connection to the Internet and is recognised as a necessity for everyone.  Bandwidth defines how much data can be sent over a broadband connection.  It is measured in the number of pieces of information that can be sent each second.   Why is Wardington's Broadband slow? Broadband speeds are much slower in rural areas mainly due

Alternative to broadband

I thought that villagers may be interested to know that there is an alternative to broadband internet via a local company called Sugarnet, based in Shenington. It works via a small dish mounted on the roof which points to a relay mast and then on to Sugarnet HQ. It is line-of-sight based and the relay mast is at Barn Farm and can be seen from the road down to Chacombe. Speed from my installation is up to 60Mbps upload and download, although my contract is set at 10Mbps, for which I pay £34.99 inc VAT per month. Faster speeds cost more! I have no incentive from Sugarnet for writing this - I'm not on commission! It's just a great service

Message from Thames Valey Police

Message sent by Steve Birchall (Police, Detective   Sergeant, Banbury L/CID, Cherwell LPA) I recently sent some crime prevention advice out about the lead up to Christmas with small things you can do such as: Don't leave packaging for expensive items out for refuse collection obviously on show. Don't leave Christmas presents in sight through a window. Don't advertise you not being at home over Christmas on social media and don't tag yourself at locations away from your home. and  mark packaging and Christmas presents so we can attempt to recover and identify them should they be stolen. I have managed to obtain some UV marker pens and will have them placed at the front offices of police stations in
