Those in the village who have papers currently delivered by John Pennock will be aware that he is retiring with effect from Saturday, 27th February. He has not either formally sold or handed on his round. I have met this morning with Smiths Newsagents (no relation to WH!) who deliver newspapers widely in the Banbury area and are prepared to deliver to former customers of John's in Wardington and Williamscot. The container for the village defibrillator has now been mounted on the front of the Memorial Hall but the defibrillator itself has yet to be commissioned and is therefore NOT yet available for use. Plans for induction/training, along with appropriate publicity, are currently being finalised and will be available shortly.

The Banbury Guardian has made an error to-day with the notice of this Sunday’s Church service. The service is United Benefice Holy Communion at 10.00am taken by Revd Hilary Campbell.
The Church bells will be rung on Wednesday, 9th September at 10.00am to celebrate the Queen becoming the longest ever reigning monarch.

At the request of the Bishop of Dorchester (Acting Bishop of Oxford), the following letter was read out in all Churches in the Diocese of Oxford last Sunday: Pentecost 2015 Pastoral Letter from the Bishops, Dean, Archdeacons and Diocesan Secretary to the Clergy and Churchwardens of the Oxford Diocese When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place (Acts 2.1) Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. Clearly it has come as a disappointment that the Crown Nominations Commission were unable to nominate someone to be the next Bishop of Oxford at their recent meeting. IMPROVEMENTS TO THE HALL As recently reported in The Warbler the planned improvements to the Hall took place in December. Firstly the reverberation panels have been fixed to almost the entire area of the main Hall ceiling. This has resulted in a significant reduction in the ‘echo’ in the Hall leading to much improved acoustics and speech intelligibility generally, especially on occasions such as cinema nights and bingo. The terraced area at the far end of the Hall has now been paved with quality natural stone slabs. This has included the pathway on the south side of the Hall along with new surface drainage for the whole rear area. Additional fencing and a gateway above the retaining wall adjacent to the
