Bowls Club Update

On 6th April 2014 Wardington Village Bowls Club held the Annual Short Mat Bowls Presentation Tournament, the finale of a fantastic 2013/2014 season and a day of social but competitive bowling.  Representatives from the leagues six local village teams put forward players to take part in the end of season bowling event, fighting it out for honour and wine prizes.  The event was kindly sponsored by Phillips Autos of Banbury.   Moreton Pinkney receive the league cup from Wardington Club President Lady Wardington. A highlight of the day was Lady Wardington (President of Wardington Bowls Club) presenting the 2013/14 Season League Cup to this year’s winners Morton Pinkney, who won one of the closest fought seasons in many years.  Runners up

Wardington Village Cinema – Philomena – Saturday 5th April

The  Wardington Village Cinema shows films for the community, so we thought it only right to give the community the opportunity to vote for the next film to be shown.  We therefore gave out voting forms at the last film evening and the results are as follows: Film Choice Number of Votes Le Weekend 14 Philomena 15 Mrs Henderson Presents 9 Hence, we are pleased to announce that Philomena will be our next film and it will be screened on Saturday 5th April (please disregard the dates shown in the Warbler as these are incorrect). Wardington Village Cinema Needs You!

Wardington Village Cinema Needs You! With just over 1 week to go until the planned 3rd screening for Wardington Village Cinema  we have only a handful of confirmed tickets sold. Due to projectionist, licence fee and equipment hire costs of £180 for each screening, we are required to sell at least 45 tickets  just to break even!  Unfortunate if enough tickets are not confirmed sold before Sunday 2nd February, this showing will have to be cancelled. After the success of the first Wardington Village Cinema night in November, we are proud to present a second film night screening the Oscar winning ARGO! ARGO is an exciting and tense film, based on the true story of a CIA agent sent on a dangerous operation to rescue six Americans in Tehran during the U.S. hostage crisis in Iran in 1980.  It stars and is directed by Ben Affleck and won the best motion picture of the year Oscar in 2012. Wardington Village Cinema Success!

Saturday 9th November was film night at Wardington memorial hall! The inaugural Wardington Village Cinema evening screened the film “Quartet” to over sixty members of the community.  Professionally projected by Northamptonshire based “Big Country Rural Cinema Company”, the specialized equipment gave the big screen experience to all that attended and proved a great success. The social event, that is designed to bring the community together and maximize the use of the memorial hall, is planned to be repeated on a regular basis with the next screening already planned for Friday 3rd January – Watch this space for upcoming announcements of the film details. Syresham vs Wardington Short Mat Bowls League Match

The first match of the local area short mat bowls league got started on Thursday 26th September with an away event at Syresham village hall. The Syresham team were very welcoming and after a little confusion regarding who was to play who on which mat, the action got under way.  Both Wardington teams found the slower mats and heavier jacks hard to get used to and therefore were out of luck in the first 8 ends with Lynda, Ralf and Margret (team 1)  falling behind 11 -3 and Eddie, Brent and Sam (team 2)  finding themselves unlucky to be 7 - 3  down after some inspired bowling from Syresham's Skipper Barbara. Wardington Village Cinema – 9th November

We are very excited to announce the first (of hopefully many) Wardington Village Cinema evenings!
