Message sent by Steve Birchall (Police, Detective   Sergeant, Banbury L/CID, Cherwell LPA) I recently sent some crime prevention advice out about the lead up to Christmas with small things you can do such as: Don't leave packaging for expensive items out for refuse collection obviously on show. Don't leave Christmas presents in sight through a window. Don't advertise you not being at home over Christmas on social media and don't tag yourself at locations away from your home. and  mark packaging and Christmas presents so we can attempt to recover and identify them should they be stolen. I have managed to obtain some UV marker pens and will have them placed at the front offices of police stations in

Warning that people purporting to be from Thames Valley Police are cold calling seeking sponsorship and advertising. If approached in this way ask them for their shoulder number them ring the non-emergency number 101 and ask to speak to them. Do not ring any other number they may give you. Also a warning that there have been numerous thefts from vehicles in recent days, including in Cropredy. Be vigilant and advice others to do the same.

Thank you to everyone who supported our Charity Evening held at Barn Farm Plants on Wednesday 28th November. A fantastic sum of £519 was raised for Katharine House Hospice and Dogs for the Disabled.

We have received reports locally of a van driving around the rural villages going door to door knocking and asking if the resident is selling puppies. Last seen in the village of Shutford yesterday. The male is described as white, 50yrs, greased back hair, smartly dressed jeans and top. The Van is a silver short wheel based, low roof transit van, reg. no. OU52 BBF. On the back of the van is a Monster Drink Logo. Please alert neighbours and always beware of any cold callers to your home. Beware these individuals may have ulterior motives. New scrap metal legislation will be in force from 3/12/12. Hopefully it will result in a reduction in scrap metal offences. The act prohibits cash payments for scrap metal (only payment by cheque or an electronic transfer of funds will be acceptable), thereby providing an audit process of a readily identifiable account, for both the payee and the payer.

The Spring Bulb Planting day held on sat Oct 6th was a HUGE success with some 25 local volunteers or more  taking part planting some 7 to 8 THOUSAND bulbs at various sites; these are markes by canes. It was GREAT fun and sustenance afterwards was provided by Mrs Craig at Ashen End whose idea this was. Well done and thank you. Malcolm Patterson.
