The concert starts with the extraordinary canon by Robert Wylkynson (c.1515) from the Eton Choirbook, then the motet Ave Maria by Parsons, both in Surround Sound. Then the famous If ye love me by Thomas Tallis, and the lively O clap your hands by Gibbons. A solo soprano sings a haunting piece by Hildegard of Bingen, with a choral arrangement (by our director) of Vaughan Williams lush scoring of Dives and Lazarus to end the first half.

To honour the Coronation of King Charles III we start with two Coronation Anthems, Vaughan Williams’ O Taste and See, and Handel’s Zadok the Priest, followed by Henry VI’s prayer (founder of King’s and Eton). There are many motets of David’s lament over Absalom, but Whitacre’s modern version is very powerful. As it is William Byrd’s 500th anniversary we have his Sing Joyfully. Then two contrasting versions about Dawn, Tallis’ O Nata Lux, and Macmillan’s O Radiant Dawn. To show our support we have Silvestrov’s Prayer for Ukraine, then a choral arrangement of the well-known Elizabethan Serenade, followed by two negro spirituals to end the concert!

There will be a sung Communion on Sunday 21st May at 10.00am at St Mary Magdalene, Wardington.
