On Friday 15th June Wardington Village Cinema will be screening Darkest Hour. During the early days of World War II, with the fall of France imminent, Britain faces its darkest hour as the threat of invasion looms. As the seemingly unstoppable Nazi forces advance, and with the Allied army cornered on the beaches of Dunkirk, the fate of Western Europe hangs on the leadership of the newly-appointed British Prime Minister Winston Churchill (Academy Award nominee Gary Oldman). While maneuvering his political rivals, he must confront the ultimate choice: negotiate with Hitler and save the British people at a terrible cost or rally the nation and fight on against incredible odds. Directed by Joe Wright, DARKEST HOUR is the dramatic and inspiring

Reminder: Paddington 2 Screening this Friday (20th April)!

Just a quick reminder that we are screening Paddington 2 at the village hall this Friday night (20th April), doors open at 7.15pm, film starts at 8pm. We are a little short on numbers, so please come along if you can - you can pay on the door but it'll help us greatly if you let us know before if you are planning to attend. You are welcome to bring your own food and drink to enjoy during the film, but we also provide a free ice cream in the half time interval, when we also draw a raffle (contributions to the raffle are greatly appreciated). All profits from the night go to the upkeep of the village hall. Paul

Proposed new J11 services – AGAIN?!

Apologies for those who have seen this item already - we are re-posting it as the auto-email notifying you of new posts has been offline for a few days. Please do read this very important message. Most residents of Wardington will have received a further letter from Cherwell Council planning department about amendments to the application for a new service station on the A361 at J11 of the M40. The letter states that the layout of the buildings has been altered and the previously proposed hotel removed. The Editor of this website is firmly opposed to this proposal and would like to urge all residents of a similar opinion to comment on the Planning Portal here: https://www.publicaccess.cherwell.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=OPQVWTEMK8A00. Wine Bluff – Majestic Special Offer

Thanks to everyone who came to this year's Call My Wine Bluff on Saturday evening in the Memorial Hall. It was a really enjoyable evening with six delicious wines to taste, supplied by Majestic Wine in Banbury. The evening featured three "bluffers", Clive Hunt, Nigel Bankes and Matt from Majestic, each of them trying to persuade us that their description of the wine we were tasting was accurate. There were many laughs, much wine consumed and a very close result in the end. The winners by a single point were "The Snackers" comprising James and Caroline Wild and Mark and Deborah Page. The wine tasting was followed by a delicious cottage pie supper, cooked by The Friends committee members and
