Village Cinema – Thank You

A very big thank you for the excellent support we have received from the community since the launch of the film nights earlier this year, where we have seen an average attendance of 40 and for the ‘Sunshine on Leith’ and  ‘Quartet’ screenings, over 60 came along – which is fantastic !!! We are delighted to announce and following the summer break, we will resume the film nights in the Memorial Hall in the early autumn with a regular evening feature to take place on the 2nd Friday of each month with the first few dates confirmed: ·         Friday 12th September ·         Friday 10th October ·         Friday 14th November Doors open at 7.30pm and the film will commence at 8pm. Tickets are £6.00 for standard/£4.00 for concessions

Winners of Community Led Plan Questionnaire draw

We had an excellent response of 250-ish questionnaires. We have drawn the prize winners, who are Will Steven, Monica Haydon, Nicholas Reynolds and Neil Forbes. Thank you to everyone who contributed. People who still want to contribute have a few more days to find a committee member and return their questionnaires. 370th Anniversary of the Battle of Cropredy Bridge

  29 JUNE 2014 370th ANNIVERSARY GUIDED BATTLEFIELD WALK BATTLE OF CROPREDY BRIDGE 1644 Cropredy Battle Anthony Rich TD and Harvey Watson of The Battlefields Trust host linked but different morning and afternoon walks exploring the battlefield of Cropredy Bridge. The battle is one of the last major Royalist victories of the Civil War and can be seen as the birthplace of the modern British Army. The morning walk will start at the Information Panel on Cropredy Bridge, at 10.30a.m. visiting the Southern section, planning to return by 1.00 p.m. The afternoon walk will start outside The Red Lion Pub (next to the Village Church in Cropredy) at 2:15 p.m. visiting the Northern section, planning to return by 5.45 p.m.

Hollywood legend Tom Hanks…………is coming to Wardington!!!

Tom is the star of Captain Phillips (12A), Wardington Village Cinema's next film night to take place on Friday 6th June - doors open 7.15pm with the screening to start promptly at 8pm.  Usual format - please bring your own drinks and nibbles and we will supply a complimentary choc-ice during the interval. The film focuses on the relationship between the Alabama's commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips, and the Somali pirate captain, Muse, who takes him hostage. Phillips and Muse are set on an unstoppable collision course when Muse and his crew target Phillips' unarmed ship; in the ensuing standoff, 145 miles off the Somali coast, both men will find themselves at the mercy of forces beyond their control. Wardington Village Cinema – Captain Phillips – Friday 6th June

Wardington Village Cinema will be screening "Captain Phillips", Columbia Pictures' action-thriller staring two-time Oscar® winner Tom Hanks in the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years. As usual this social event will open doors at 7:15pm ready for 8pm start.  There will be a mid film interval when free ice creams will be served.  Please feel free to bring along your own food and drink to enjoy during the show. News from St Mary Magdalene Church

Pattern of Sunday Services As already announced in Church, this month sees a change in the pattern of the Sunday services aimed at spreading the more highly attended services more evenly across the month. The Family Service remains on the first Sunday and will continue to be taken by Sue Upton with the usual time for refreshments and a chat after the service. The Family Communion service will now be on the third Sunday and will usually be taken by the Vicar, Hilary Campbell. This shorter Communion service will have a more family friendly and less formal approach. Warning from Thames Valley Police

Over the past few weeks there have been a number of thefts of money and credit cards from purses and wallets where the victim has been approached and asked for change. Victims are usually elderly. They will have come out of a store where they have used their card and the suspects will have been close to see the PIN being entered. The suspects will then approach the victim outside the store, waving money and either speaking very broken English or in a foreign language. They will gesticulate and try and get the victim to open their purse or wallet as they want change. Once the wallet or purse is open they will wave their hands around whilst speaking and
