We have received reports locally of a van driving around the rural villages going door to door knocking and asking if the resident is selling puppies. Last seen in the village of Shutford yesterday. The male is described as white, 50yrs, greased back hair, smartly dressed jeans and top. The Van is a silver short wheel based, low roof transit van, reg. no. OU52 BBF. On the back of the van is a Monster Drink Logo. Please alert neighbours and always beware of any cold callers to your home. Beware these individuals may have ulterior motives. New scrap metal legislation will be in force from 3/12/12. Hopefully it will result in a reduction in scrap metal offences. The act prohibits cash payments for scrap metal (only payment by cheque or an electronic transfer of funds will be acceptable), thereby providing an audit process of a readily identifiable account, for both the payee and the payer.

Neighbourhood Watch News November 2012

Message from Thames Valley Police Neighbourhood Action Group Team News The team participated in operations to tackle Halloween and Bonfire Night related crime and disorder. We are pleased report that we did not receive any reports of Anti Social behavior or related crime during these evenings. Neighborhood Officers were tasked with proactive patrols to ensure vulnerable people and previous victims of crime were given reassurance visited prior to the event. Officers attended local schools and village shops to provide education and support. Auto Crime During September we experienced a series of twelve thefts of Catalytic converters from vehicles in Bodicote, Adderbury, Twyford and Hook Norton. The offender has overnight cut through metal to remove the converters from underneath vehicles. The

Bulb planting

The Spring Bulb Planting day held on sat Oct 6th was a HUGE success with some 25 local volunteers or more taking part planting some 7 to 8 THOUSAND bulbs at various sites; these are markes by canes. It was GREAT fun and sustenance afterwards was provided by Mrs Craig at Ashen End whose idea this was. Well done and thank you. Malcolm Patterson.

Suspicious vehicle – Old Pool area, early hours Thursday 20th Sept.

UPDATE: It has been suggested that this could well have been the milkman, but nevertheless, the message is still valid! Dear All I wanted to let you know that in the early hours of this morning (4.15 am) I heard and briefly saw a vehicle (something similar to a flat bed ford transit – light in colour) acting suspiciously around the green. I was up with [my daughter] at the time and unable to act on what I saw – and have been feeling guilty ever since. Basically I heard the sound of a vehicle moving around the green, this stopped for 1-2 minutes, I looked out the window and heard the vehicle revving and driving fairly swiftly up the

Family Olympics – photos

A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was had by all at the "Sizzling Sausage Family Olympics". Delicious sausages were supplied my Mumfords and there was a cake stall, a very good raffle and information about the Community-led Development Plan. There were a number of individual races for all age groups, a wellie-throwing competition, won by Mark Page, and team sports which included Dress/Undress, Egg and Spoon race and a three-legged race. Thanks go to Steve Mackenzie-Lawrie and his team for their extremely good organisation. The afternoon was designed to promote the Community-led Development Plan, an initiative sponsored by Cherwell District Council and designed to give all members of the community a say about their village and the wider community. Fire!

A fire in Upper Wardington caused by dry pine needles and leylandii cuttings is being put out behind Brakespear's barn as your correspondent is writing. Two fire appliances are on the scene and the fire is now under control. The whole of Upper Wardington came out to see what was happening and once it was established that no people or property were in danger, there was great excitement amongst the children especially. The fire hydrant in the road by the old pool was used to supply water to the fire appliances and the children were on hand to ensure that there was enough torchlight for the firefighters to see the connection!
