Hare & Hounds – 4pm Wed. 25th August

The Hare & Hounds will formally open its doors at 4pm on Wednesday 25th August 2021. Tim, Gus and the team will be pouring a free drink for the whole village to celebrate! There will be free finger food at the opening and for the first few days, with the kitchen opening for dining in September. Tim can't wait to welcome you all and raise a glass to the end of lockdown and the permanent re-opening of your village pub!

POSTPONED Opening of the Hare & Hounds

With regret the reopening of the Hare & Hounds is postponed due to Tim, your new landlord, contracting Covid. He is very disappointed with this turn of events, however is hoping that he will soon recover and be able to open in the very near future. Watch this space for updates!

Planning Application 21/02467/F for further development at Junction 11

There is a flurry of activity and concern about the submission of a further planning application by Euro Garages for the area between Wardington and the M40 - https://planningregister.cherwell.gov.uk/Planning/Display/21/02467/F Having got permission for the monstrous warehouse, they are having a second go for a motorway services station, four story office building, two fast food outlets and a 240 bed hotel. Their first application was opposed and withdrawn some 3 years ago. The reasons were: Unnecessary: Services already exist less than 15 miles to the north and south Access: Increasingly congested motorway junction and unsuitable access via the A361 Pollution: The air between the motorway junction and Banbury is already one of the most polluted areas in Oxfordshire Type of Employment:

Meet your new landlord

Meet Tim Steel, the new landlord of the the Hare & Hounds, who is a restaurateur from the West End in London with award winning sites in Mayfair and Covent Garden. He lives just a few miles from the village and will be hands-on making sure that the pub serves the needs of Wardington and its surroundings. Gus, a very experienced Kiwi publican who has had many senior positions at London pubs, will help run the site alongside Tim. He has also relocated up here and lives just south of Brackley. Wardington Cricket Ground

The family of the late Lord and Lady Wardington has gifted the ownership of the Cricket Ground to the Trustees* of Wardington Memorial Hall with immediate effect. In practice all the village community facilities, the Memorial Hall, the Cricket Ground and the Children’s Playground, will now have common ownership. However each of the current or future user organisations will continue to manage their activities independently. Some fifty years ago Lord Wardington made an unwritten agreement whereby Wardington Cricket Club may have continued use of the Cricket Ground so long as cricket continued to be played there. A condition included in the transfer effectively continues that agreement in perpetuity by stating that the owners of the Cricket Ground may not permit

HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh – 1921-2021
