HS2

Notes on meeting with Victoria Prentis MP on 12th June 2015

Members of the Parish Council and the Parish Clerk met Victoria Prentis at Wardington Manor together with George Reynolds Oxfordshire County Councillor, Mike Kerford Byrnes Cherwell District Councillor and Ken Atack, Cherwell District Councillor. Forbes and Bridget Elworthy and Charles Holbech were in attendance. The purpose of the meeting was to acquaint Victoria Prentis and the Oxfordshire and Cherwell Councillors of the problems both in Wardington village and the surrounding villages that the volume of construction traffic associated with the building of HS2 would cause. The forecast of HGV traffic previously presented at the village meeting and a highlighted map showing likely rat runs were tabled as evidence of this problem. After discussion and clarification of the facts presented it

During the peak phase of construction (up to two years) there are scheduled to be an additional 1,300 HGVs EACH WAY passing through Wardington. Mitch Hickman, our Parish Clerk, has produced a short video illustrating the difficulty the existing HGV traffic has in passing through the village. Please share this with as many people as you can to raise awareness.

Support from Victoria Prentis MP

I have just received the following email from Victoria Prentis MP: Dear Mr Steven, Thank you very much for your email raising concern over HS2, and specifically the potential impact on Wardington. I’ve been an opponent of HS2 since the day it was announced by the last Labour Government. I have been a Director of Transport Sense, an organisation that fights against the plans. I do not think the business case has been made. I believe that if built, the line will destroy communities. The construction works would have a severe adverse effect across great swathes of the constituency, including the centre of Banbury where the additional traffic would create a logjam. I feel there are better ways of spending
