Upper Edgcote

In view of the adverse publicity being generated by extensive media coverage of HS2 the residents of Upper Wardington had a meeting over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend where it was resolved to change the name of this part of the village to Upper Edgcote. A Rectification Application has been made to the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and confirmation is anticipated in due course.

The Lady in the Van – Only a few tickets left

This Saturday (March 19th) Wardington Village Cinema will be Screening "The Lady in the Van" - Alan Bennett's big screen comedic adaptation of his own iconic memoir, starring Dame Maggie Smith. There has been a lot of interest for this film, so if you plan to attend ensure you reserve a ticket without delay, by calling Paul Bimson (01295 758855) or Sam Young (01295 750871). Doors open at 7.15 pm at the Memorial Village Hall, the film will start promptly at 8.00 pm.  There will be a half time interval with free ice cream and a raffle (Raffle prize donations are gratefully accepted). Tickets - £6 Standard, £4 Concessions.

Charity quiz result

Many thanks to all those that attended and helped raise £618 at our charity Quiz yesterday, 4th March at the Memorial Hall for Katherine House Hospice (via Hare & Hounds 2016 charity appeal). Special thanks to Grimsbury Fish Bar for providing excellent food delivered on time!’

Residents in Wardington, near Banbury, have campaigned for months against plans for lorries to drive past their homes as part of the building of the new high speed rail link. The A361 passes through the village, which could carry vehicles travelling up from the M40 near Banbury. But following a meeting of the HS2 select committee on January 18, MPs have said efforts should be made to cut down on the number of lorry trips. Minutes of the Wardington Parish Council Meeting Location:  Wardington Memorial Hall Date: Tuesday, 16th February, 2016 (7:30pm) In Attendance: Mr G Page (Chair), Mr N Bankes (Vice-Chair), Mr I Franklin, Mr A Crossley,  Mr K Atack (District Councillor), Mr B Jarrett (Clerk), Mr P Mason (Parishioner), Mr R Anson (Parishioner), Apologies: Mr M Patterson, Mrs A Pasco, Mr G. Martin, Mr K Atack for late arrival..   1.    The ‘Pond’ opposite Chapel Cottages. Mr Bankes chaired this item as it directly concerned Mr Page. Mr Mason and Mr Anson attended the meeting to formally object to the fence that had been erected in front of the ‘pond’ by Mr Page. The ‘pond is on unregistered land. Their objections were:- i.

Newspapers

Those in the village who have papers currently delivered by John Pennock will be aware that he is retiring with effect from Saturday, 27th February. He has not either formally sold or handed on his round. I have met this morning with Smiths Newsagents (no relation to WH!) who deliver newspapers widely in the Banbury area and are prepared to deliver to former customers of John's in Wardington and Williamscot.
