Playground 200 Club

The village playground is funded by subscriptions to the 200 club. £1 per month buys one number entered into the monthly prize draw. There are two prizes drawn each month. First prize : £20 Second prize: £10. Parish Council Minutes (June)

 Minutes of the Meeting of Wardington Parish Council held on Tuesday 23rd June 2015 at 7.30pm in Wardington Memorial Hall In Attendance:  Mr G Page (Chair), Mr K Atack (District Councillor), Mr G Martin, Mr M Patterson, Mr M Hickman (Clerk), Mrs Jan Funnell (Parishioner) Apologies: Mr N Bankes (Vice-Chair), Mrs A Pascoe Minutes of the Previous Meetings (May 26th): Agreed and signed 1. Matters arising from previous meetings 1.1 HS2 The council met with MP Victoria Prentis on June 12th at Wardington Manor. Thank you to Bridget and Forbes Elworthy for hosting the occasion. Victoria Prentis agreed with concerns about HGV traffic and is keen to work to find a solution. She has since undertaken to arrange for representatives from HS2

Friday night is film night!!!

This coming Friday (26th) will be our last film night for the current season and to add to the occasion we will be holding a BBQ on the new patio at the rear of the Memorial Hall.  BBQ is inclusive of the ticket cost (Standard £7.50/Concessions £5.50).  Please bring your own drinks and nibbles.  A complimentary choc ice is also included in the ticket price.  By popular demand we will also be running a raffle with proceeds (including surplus on ticket sales) goingtowards further improvements to the Memorial Hall's facilities. The final film for this current season (we will be back in September - dates to follow) is 'Chef' - a comedy starring Dustin Hoffman and Robert Downey Junior. BBQ

Marie Curie – 10K Walk to Remember @ Blenheim Palace

  Marie Curie are holding a charity walk at Blenheim Palace on Saturday August 8th. The walk is a 10K evening walk. It is £10 to enter. Participants are asked to raise at least £100. All money raised will go towards funding the fantastic nurses working in Oxfordshire, treating terminally ill patients all over the county. Notes on meeting with Victoria Prentis MP on 12th June 2015

Members of the Parish Council and the Parish Clerk met Victoria Prentis at Wardington Manor together with George Reynolds Oxfordshire County Councillor, Mike Kerford Byrnes Cherwell District Councillor and Ken Atack, Cherwell District Councillor. Forbes and Bridget Elworthy and Charles Holbech were in attendance. The purpose of the meeting was to acquaint Victoria Prentis and the Oxfordshire and Cherwell Councillors of the problems both in Wardington village and the surrounding villages that the volume of construction traffic associated with the building of HS2 would cause. The forecast of HGV traffic previously presented at the village meeting and a highlighted map showing likely rat runs were tabled as evidence of this problem. During the peak phase of construction (up to two years) there are scheduled to be an additional 1,300 HGVs EACH WAY passing through Wardington. Mitch Hickman, our Parish Clerk, has produced a short video illustrating the difficulty the existing HGV traffic has in passing through the village. Please share this with as many people as you can to raise awareness.

A FUN AFTERNOON AT THE FETE

Over two hundred from the village and further afield flocked to the Manor for a most enjoyable afternoon at the Fete last Sunday. The weather finally came good and the sunglasses and hats were much needed. There was fun on hand for all ages and soon the twenty or so attractions were doing brisk trade with the Garden Club plant stall and Air Ambulance stall both selling out completely. Meanwhile the Morris Dancers, including the Vicar as a volunteer dancer, added plenty of colour in the centre of the lawn. Safari Supper reminder

Remember to book your tickets for this year's Safari Supper on Friday 19th June. Either download the ticket application form or phone Philippa Hunt on 01295 758087. Meet at the church at 7:15 for Pimms and canapés. Go for a main course with your allocated host. Gather for cheese and pudding (and maybe a couple of extra glasses of something) at the Memorial Hall.

Film, BBQ and Social Extravaganza!

To celebrate a second successful year of Wardington Village Cinema we will be holding a Film, Barbecue and Social event! We would love for you to join us at the Memorial Hall on Friday 26th June at 7pm to enjoy a Barbecue on the new rear patio. The Film selected to fit in with the end of season celebration and barbecue is “Chef" and will follow commencing at 8pm. We then encourage you to stay after the film to socialize, please feel free to also bring along your own food and drink. Special ticket price includes the film and freshly barbecued burger/hot dog with salad:  £5.50 for concessions / £7.50 standard. There will also be a raffle drawn at the conclusion of the film.
