Photo call – Tomorrow at 11am, Captain Tom’s Flag

The Banbury Guardian has asked for a photo of Captain Tom's Flag. We are asking for all villagers who can to come along to the bus shelter in the centre of the village (opposite the Memorial Hall) at 11am tomorrow, Sunday 30th April 2023, for a village photo with the flag.  Whether it will make the front page, who knows!

Captain Tom’s Flag by Roderick Stell

“Tomorrow will be a good day” is the expression of hope for the future which many of us associate with the late Captain Tom Moore. He caught the public’s eye when, one hundred years of age, he set out to raise some money for the NHS by walking round his garden with his Zimmer-frame, this was in gratitude for the care he received during a life-threatening illness. Caught up by the media, the few hundred pounds he had hoped to raise became millions. Captain Tom’s autobiography of 2020 came to my attention after his death because he was well-known for his roots in Keighley, my own home town, and I discovered that he and my father had both served in

Coronation celebrations, Saturday 6th May, from 5pm

Although there are no village-wide plans to celebrate the Coronation, there are gatherings in the village on Saturday 6th May from 5pm to toast our new King & Queen. If you wish to join in, please bring a chair, picnic rug, children's tea, cake, sandwiches, a bottle / drink and some nibbles as you wish. Everybody is welcome, there is no formality, it's just a nice excuse for the community to get together. Gatherings are either on School Green (outside Clive & Philippa Hunt’s house) or the Old Pool in Upper Wardington (where we have the carol singing).  There will be bunting and good cheer, weather permitting!

POSTPONED – Casino Night

Road grit stolen – please take note

This morning a grey pickup, stole all of the grit from outside Red Lion House in Upper Wardington. They were seen and challenged by the owners of Red Lion House. They claimed that it was for their farm in the village and boasted that they had taken grit from the other bins in the village. Please be aware that the rules surrounding the grit in council-provided bins are very clear. It is for the roads and pavement in the area close to where the bin is located and is NOT for use on private driveways or other private land. Oxfordshire County Highways are notoriously difficult to contact and slow to refill empty bins. The theft has been reported to the
